AdNectar is an early-stage social advertising company on a mission to change how social media and virtual goods are monetized. AdNectar is building an advertising platform that is more enjoyable for users, more effective for advertisers and more profitable for publishers. The founding team has years of experience building online services used by tens of millions of consumers as well as starting and selling a company. Russell Siegelman
Russell Siegelman has spent over 20 years in technology and investing. Currently he is splitting his time between angel investing, non-profit boards and teaching. He has made personal investments in SnapVine (sold), Yardbarker, idapted, PixelPipe, Triggit, and AdNectar. In the non-profit area, he is the Chairman of the Board of Sustainable Conservation, a Trustee at The Nueva School, and a Director of the Positive Coaching Alliance. Russell is an instructor in the Stanford Graduate School of Business course “Evaluating Entrepreneurial Opportunities”. Starting in 1996, Russell spent eleven years as a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, where he invested in consumer and technology related technologies and markets, including software, electronic commerce, Web services, semiconductors, mobile systems, media and telecommunications. He currently serves on the boards of several KPCB companies, including Friendster, Lilliputian Systems, Pixtronix, and RazorGator. Russell also leads KPCB's investments in WildBlue Communications and SS8. Russell joined KPCB after seven years at Microsoft. At Microsoft he helped launch several networking and Windows products. Later he worked directly for Bill Gates, resulting in the formation the Microsoft Network (MSN), Microsoft's online service. Russell became the first employee of this division and its General Manager and then Vice. Under his direction, MSN was developed and launched and reached over one million paying members. Russell was also responsible for the formation of the Slate project, Microsoft's World Wide Web political and arts commentary. He recruited the editor, Michael Kinsley, and was the business manager in charge of Slate until he left Microsoft in July 1996. Before Microsoft, Russell was a software engineer who wrote artificial intelligence applications for the financial services industry at Applied Expert Systems, a Cambridge, Massachusetts startup, and was also an engineering consultant. He earned his BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Physics in 1984 and an MBA from Harvard University where he was a Baker Scholar in 1989. Brian O'Kelley Brian O'Kelley is best known for creating the first successful online ad exchange as CTO of Right Media (acquired by Yahoo for $850MM in July 2007). Brian's entrepreneurial career began in high school selling computers out of a friend's garage. At Princeton, he started a web design firm, building an open-source e-commerce engine used by more than 100 companies. After graduating in 1999, Brian was CEO of Netamorphosis, an early social networking and e-commerce site for events and venues, and spent time at LogicSpan, Cetova, Poindexter Systems before joining Right Media in 2003. Roger Lee, Battery Ventures Roger joined Battery in 2001 and focuses on the software, consumer Internet and digital media markets. Roger is currently a board member at Angie's List, FreeWheel, Lotame, PrimeRevenue, Spot Runner, TrialPay and World Golf Tour. He was on the board of Insitu (acquired by Boeing), and he was a board observer at Neoteris prior to its acquisition by NetScreen. Before joining Battery, Roger spent 10 years as an entrepreneur and operator. Most recently, he was a co-founder of Corio, a leading managed service provider that was acquired by IBM. At Corio, Roger oversaw all business development activities and later became a General Manager of the e-commerce business unit. Prior to Corio, Roger was the Manager of Internet Products at Edify Corporation. Roger was also the co-founder and President of NetMarket, an online consumer Internet service that was acquired by Cendant Corporation. Roger graduated with distinction from Yale University with a BA in Political Science. Satya Patel, Battery Ventures Satya joined Battery in 2007 and focuses on the Software, Consumer Internet and Digital Media markets. He is on the boards of BlueKai, Freewheel Media and Lotame and is a board observer for Angie's List, Bazaarvoice and Adisn. Satya’s prior experience spans more than a decade in online media and software, both in operating and investing roles. Before joining Battery, Satya spent several years at Google, most recently as Senior Product Manager for AdSense. Beginning in 2003, he helped to build the AdSense business through various partner development and product management activities. Before Google, Satya was a Senior Product Manager at DoubleClick, leading the company’s efforts in the search marketing business. Satya also worked on various product and operational initiatives for the DART adserving platform, including with both publishers and advertisers/agencies. Earlier in his career, Satya was a Senior Associate at Impact Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm based in New York, where he focused on investments in the Internet software, services and media markets. Representative investments include OpenTable and MessageOne. Satya began his venture capital career at Geocapital Partners, a trans-Atlantic technology venture capital firm. Representative investments from Geocapital include Homestore, StepStone and Geneva Technology. Satya also worked for Monitor Company, the strategy consulting firm founded by Michael Porter, as a strategy consultant in its New York and Tel Aviv offices. Satya is the co-inventor of 14 pending patents related to online advertising. He is proud to serve on the board of KIPP Bay Area Schools, a network of seven public charter schools in underserved communities. Satya graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Finance from the Wharton School and a BA in Psychology from the College of Arts & Sciences.
Larry Braitman Kevin Hartz Kevin is the Co-Founder & CEO of Eventbrite. Previously he was the Co-Founder and CEO of Xoom Corporation, an international money transfer company providing services to over 40 countries worldwide. Kevin holds a BA and BS from Stanford University, as well as an MA from Oxford University (University College). He has been an active early stage investor and advisor to startups including PayPal (NASDAQ: EBAY), Flixster, Trulia, TokBox, Geni, Tripit, iControl, Three Rings, Friendster, Yammer, Milo, dotBlu and AdNectar.
